Raees Khan

Ustad Raees Khan is one of the foremost Sitar players from the Sub-continent and made a name for himself alongside people like Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shanker and Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib, who was his maternal uncle. Ustad Raees Khan has many recordings of his dazzling performances from his heyday back in the 60’s through the 90’s. He moved to Pakistan some years ago following his marriage with Bilqees Khanam with whom he has two sons who are making a name for themselves as Sitarists. His move to Pakistan was reviled in India, and occasionally regretted by him as he did not obtain the patronage and success that he had hoped to gain there, and that he had rightly deserved. Raees Khan Sahib lives now lives in Karachi. This poem of mine is a tribute to an outstanding Sitarist whom I have always admired.
